FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q.      I want to start Tae Kwon-Do. What kind of a club should I be looking for?

The first thing you should do is visit a club. Talk with the instructor and observe how he/she is teaching. It is very important that you feel comfortable with your instructor and the way classes are being taught. You must be able to develop trust in your instructor. Do not pay fees that are too high, a good instructor will not be teaching to become rich! Check if the training is physically intensive and not too chaotic.

Q.      I used to do martial art when I was younger. Do you accept students from other martial arts backgrounds?

We love nothing more than when someone wants to restart their martial arts training.

Q.      Am I too young / too old?

There is no real age limitation. I have trained students aged 4 who have gone on to grade. My partner Cheryl and I are in our fifties and I have trained with people in their sixties, seventies and even eighties! My primary focus is the student, regardless of their age, and their committment to Taekwondo and to help them achieve their black belt.

Q.      What is Tae Kwon-Do?

Tae Kwon-Do originated in South Korea in the 1950’s and is a relatively modern martial art. It is very dynamic and is characterized by its fast, high and spinning kicks.
Tae Kwon-Do is often translated as  ‘The Way of Foot and Hand’

      • ‘Tae’ means to jump or smash with the foot.
      • ‘Kwon’ means to punch or destroy with the hand.
      • ‘Do’ means art, way or method
