I want your Tae Kwon-Do journey as exciting as mine was. Below (and attached) are a number of Questions I have thought of, but do not let fear of the unknown stop you from becoming a black belt. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at questions@dunmowtkd.co.uk
The first thing you should do is visit a club. Talk with the instructor and observe how he/she is teaching. It is very important that you feel comfortable with your instructor and the way classes are being taught. You must be able to develop trust in your instructor. Do not pay fees that are too high, a good instructor will not be teaching to become rich! Check if the training is physically intensive and not too chaotic.
We love nothing more than when someone wants to restart their martial arts training.
There is no real age limitation. I have trained students aged 4 who have gone on to grade. My partner Cheryl and I are in our fifties and I have trained with people in their sixties, seventies and even eighties! My primary focus is the student, regardless of their age, and their committment to Taekwondo and to help them achieve their black belt.
Tae Kwon-Do originated in South Korea in the 1950’s and is a relatively modern martial art. It is very dynamic and is characterized by its fast, high and spinning kicks.
Tae Kwon-Do is often translated as ‘The Way of Foot and Hand’
The TAGB (Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain) is a professional and internationally recognised Tae Kwon-Do organisation. It was formed in 1983 and has since become the founding member of the British Tae Kwon-Do Council (BTC), and has the full support of Sport UK (formerly the British Sports Council). The TAGB is the largest and most successful single martial arts organisation in Europe, with more than 26,000 licensed members training in over 700 clubs.
The TAGB guarantees qualified, experienced instructors who are enhanced CRB checked, have full professional indemnity insurance cover, and follow a carefully structured teaching syllabus.
